1. Neuroanatomical bases of motivational and cognitive control: A focus on the medial and lateral prefrontal cortex

چکیده
Understanding the neural mechanisms of control regulation requires delineating specific functional roles for individual neural structures, and consequently their functional relationships. Higher-order control over behavior has traditionally been seen as the function of the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Models of various aspects of control, including top-down processing, decision making, and performance monitoring focus primarily on two subdivisions of the PFC, namely the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and the medial frontal cortex, particularly the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Within these frameworks, DLPFC is allocated a role in the maintenance of representations of goals and means to achieve them in order to bias processes that depend on posterior brain areas 58 , while medial frontal areas, again especially ACC, participate in performance monitoring, action evaluation and detection of events that indicate the need for behavioural adaptation and

prelimbic of medial prefrontal cortex GABA modulation through testosterone on spatial learning and memory
Prefrontal cortex (PFC) is involved in multiple functions including attentional , spatial orientation, short and long-term memory. Our previous study indicated that microinjection of testosterone in CA1 impaired spatial learning and memory. Some evidence suggests that impairment effect of testosterone is mediated by GABAergic system. In the present study, we investigated the interaction of test...

متن کامل5. A comparative perspective on executive and motivational control by the medial prefrontal cortex
Overview The goal of this chapter is to describe recent efforts at understanding the functional significance of " prefrontal " areas in the cerebral cortex of rodents with regard to cognitive and motivational control. Previous discussions on the comparative anatomy of the prefrontal cortex have been framed around the question " Do rats have prefrontal cortex? " 46, 61. Researchers using rodents...
متن کاملThe Study of Apomorphine Effects and Heterogeneity in the Medial Prefrontal Cortex on the Dopaminergic Behaviors of Rats
Objective(s) While the nucleus accumbens and the striatum have received much attention regarding their roles in stereotyped behaviors, the role of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) has not been investigated to the same degree. Few studies have reported the role of the mPFC in dopaminergic induction of locomotor hyperactivity. The mPFC is a heterogeneous area (the anterior cingulated, prelimbi...
متن کاملControl of food consumption by learned cues: a forebrain-hypothalamic network.
Motivation plays an important role in the control of food intake. This review will focus on recent findings using a neural systems analysis of a behavioral model for learned motivational control of eating. In this model, environmental cues that acquire motivational properties through Pavlovian conditioning can subsequently override satiety and promote eating in sated rats. Evidence will be pres...
